Message and Opinion from alignafrica’s patron

H.E.Thomas Tut Puk, State Minister of Mines & Petroleum, Ethiopia

Established in 2009 and subsequently re-registered under Proclamation 1113/2019, alignafrica stands as a prominent non-profit Civil Society Organization (CSO) committed to cultivating thriving communities throughout Ethiopia. Our mandate is to elevate the quality of life for youth, women, and men by advancing livelihoods and enhancing social services through innovative and empowering methodologies. Our organization receives vital funding from YNSD, Christian Aid-Ethiopia, Civil Society Support Program (CSSP)/British Council, and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) through the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia, as well as Education Development Trust (EDT) etc.

alignafrica's initiatives are rooted in pioneering efforts to implement grant programs focused on poverty and development. We amplify the voices of marginalized communities under the direct supervision of donors and governments, addressing the stark realities faced by the poor. Drawing from our extensive experience with these donor organizations, we endeavor to understand poverty and well-being from the perspective of those affected. We focus on their challenges, priorities, and the dynamics within their communities and households, including gender relations.

Our mission is to empower the poor through innovation and by promoting new approaches to tackling poverty. We prioritize accountability, transparency, and responsiveness in our interactions with stakeholders, striving to create meaningful impact nationwide.

Message from the Founder & Executive Director

Yonas Mamo Zewudie

Since its inception in 2009, alignafrica has been driven by the unwavering belief that Ethiopia's true development hinges on empowering its rural communities to lead transformative lives. Our mission began with a commitment to empower half a million lives within three years through comprehensive development initiatives spanning community mobilization, education, capacity building, One Health integration, water and sanitation, and livelihood enhancement. Beyond immediate impact, our vision aims to establish a scalable model for development that inspires nationwide change.

At alignafrica, we are a dedicated team committed to addressing the diverse challenges faced by rural Ethiopians. We recognize that achieving our mission requires collaborative efforts. We foster partnerships, teamwork, knowledge sharing, and community ownership, collaborating with donors, foundations, government entities, corporate institutions, and individuals to drive sustainable change. Our commitment is steadfast, aimed at empowering communities to significantly contribute to Ethiopia's prosperity.

Our aspiration is to foster healthy, thriving communities across Ethiopia and beyond, bridging the urban-rural divide. We invite you to join us in supporting rural communities' aspirations with the same passion that drives our endeavors. Together, let us build inclusive communities and share in their journey towards prosperity.

As we reflect, we leave you with three guiding questions: If not now, then when? If not here, then where? If not you, then who?

Yonas Mamo Zewudie, Founder and Executive Director
